Preschool
Preparing to send children to preschool can be intimidating. It’s hard to believe that they are ready for preschool already, and you know that the thought of saying “goodbye” for half or full days of school is going to be tough. Choosing a Christ-centered preschool where you can trust your child is safe and cared for is going to be key, and knowing what your child can expect in their preschool years will help you feel confident in your choice.
What parents love about our Christian preschool program:
We Partner with Parents
We believe our role as a school is to partner with parents in the education of their children, so we encourage parental participation in our school through volunteering and engagement with teachers. We are committed to strong communication between home and school so you know what is happening in your child’s classroom and can be involved in a variety of school activities throughout the year from field trips to classroom experiences and learning themes!
We Reinforce What You Teach at Home
You’re instilling Christian values of love, kindness, care, and compassion at home. Through Bible stories and songs, your children are learning who God is and how He loves them. When your children attend preschool at SCS, they learn those same things at school. This consistency fosters a love for Jesus and a confidence that He cares for them.
We Let Kids Be Kids
Our preschool classrooms are full of laughter, curiosity, imagination, and wonder. From crafts and playtime activities that foster creativity to outdoor time when children can get their hands dirty and get the wiggles out, we let kids be kids. This also means that we do not introduce our littlest learners to concepts that are too advanced for them, and that we keep difficult subjects out of the classroom until learners reach upper middle school and have the spiritual maturity to seek God’s truth.
We Get Outside
Outdoor time is a key part of our preschool program as children learn God’s world through experience. Children have multiple recesses each day, and the Outdoor Learning Center is regularly incorporated into learning.
We Prepare Children for Kindergarten
Preschool is a lot of fun, but there is a lot happening academically each day to prepare our littlest learners for Kindergarten! A large part of the preschool experience is the social-emotional aspect of learning to transition into school and share with, care for, and respect classmates in a collaborative learning environment. All of these skills are key for the transition to elementary school! In addition, our four-year-olds learn the foundations for reading and math, and our preschoolers walk into kindergarten fully prepared with a basic knowledge of shapes, colors, letters, numbers, and phonics.
PreK3
For children who turn 3 on or before October 1st
The PreK3 program provides an introduction to a collaborative learning experience. We set small academic goals such as identifying shapes, letters, colors, and songs. Perhaps more importantly, 3-year-olds learn how to step away from mom and dad, listen to teachers and other students, and follow instructions. They also learn from example and from Bible stories how to share with, care for, and respect their friends.
PreK3 meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:40-12:15.
PreK4
For children who turn 4 on or before October 1st
In PreK4, children learn many of the same skills that are taught in PreK3, but the program is more academic and includes enrichment activities for full-day students like library, music, and gym class. In addition to learning those basic academic skills, four-year-olds learn the foundations for reading and math.
PreK4 meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at 8:40. Half-day dismisses at 12:15 and full-day dismisses at 3:15.
