Enrollment FAQ

SCS Application & Enrollment FAQ

If you’ve been thinking about enrolling your children at a Christian school, you probably have some questions.
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers to help you through the application process.

Step 1: Visit

We always recommend coming to visit campus as a first step. It’s the best way to know if SCS is going to be a fit for your family!

Step 2: Apply

Our application is all online, so you can submit the application and supporting materials from your home.

Step 3: Interview

Once all your application materials are received, you’ll meet with our Admissions Committee as a final step.

Frequently Asked Questions

At SCS, we have a rolling admissions process, meaning applications are processed and students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. It also means that we’re always enrolling, so there is no set application window.

Most families apply between January and April for the coming year. If you are enrolling in a class with limited space available, we recommend applying early (November-January) for the best chance at ensuring a seat for your child for the coming year.

We do recommend visiting before you apply, so if you haven’t already, we encourage you to consider scheduling a visit as a first step.

No, a visit isn’t required before an application is submitted. But, we do find that a visit is helpful for most families as a first step. A visit is specifically recommended in cases where a child has specific learning needs that may need to be addressed, as we will discuss your child’s needs and our ability to meet his or her needs on your tour.

The Admissions Coordinator will be able to tell you whether we have space available or if we have a waitpool in a given grade. You can call 973-875-5595 ext. 232 to find out.

Currently, we have the most space available in grades 5-8. Availability in PreK3 through Grade 4 is limited, and if you are applying for those grades we do recommend applying early and/or calling to inquire about available space.

Set aside about 30 minutes to apply. You may be able to fill out the application more quickly, or you may need more time depending on how much information you have to share.

It really depends. Most families go from start of application to acceptance in about a month.

The application itself can be filled out online in anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on how much information you provide.

Supporting documentation is required for most grade levels (report cards, birth certificates, etc.) and those documents can be uploaded to the online application or emailed to our office.

After the online application is completed, your Pastor’s Recommendation Form and School Recommendation Form will need to be returned to our school. We recommend calling your pastor and school to let them know that you need this form returned promptly.

Once the full application is received, your family interview will be scheduled, usually within a few weeks to a month of your application completion.

Our family interviews are all about getting to know your family and helping your family get to know our school and our community. Expect to have a casual and friendly conversation with a School Board member and Admissions Committee member. We’ll share our testimonies with you and ask you to share yours. We’ll talk about our involvement in the SCS community and ask you a bit about how you might see yourself getting involved. We’ll also spend time answering any questions you might have and addressing your concerns. Interviews usually last 30-45 minutes and take place in the evenings. The Enrollment Coordinator will help schedule your interview once your application is complete.

After your family interview, you’ll receive a phone call (usually within a week) to let you know if you have been accepted. Upon acceptance, we’ll have you fill out some registration paperwork (most of which is online) and pay a $100 tuition deposit to secure your child’s spot. This paperwork takes about 30-minutes to complete, and it concludes the enrollment process for your family. After paperwork is submitted, you’re officially enrolled!
