Get to Know Third Grade Teacher, Mrs. Esther Rojo
Mrs. Rojo is another familiar face to SCS students, as she was a second grade co-teacher last year. But, this year she is taking on a new role as third grade teacher! Get to know her better:
Where and when did you start teaching?
I first started teaching at a Christian School in Yonkers, NY (Hudson View Christian Academy) in 2004. In 2015 after giving birth to my first son I stopped teaching to become a full time Mom. Many experiences in my life have shaped me into the teacher that I am today. From teaching in Sunday school, being a Mom, reading different literatures, babysitting in the city, being discipled at church, and interacting with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds to getting a formal education.
What brought you to SCS?
We moved from New York to New Jersey after purchasing our first home. In search for a good Christian School we were referred to Sussex Christian School.
What is your favorite thing about teaching third grade?
I love getting to see my students grow in knowledge and maturity as we work over our school material together. The best part of teaching Spanish is helping the students understand the cultural layers that both inform and shape the language.
Why are you passionate about Christian education?
I am passionate to be able to implement a Christian worldview into every subject that I teach, giving the students the ability to analyze every aspect of our subject material under God’s magnifying glass (His Word).
Tell us about your testimony.
I knew that I was a sinner and in need of a Savior at the age of 6. Since losing my mom to cancer at the young age of 9, the Lord has become my stronghold and guide in life. As a teen I decided to serve Him full time and sought to glorify him with my life. My faith encompasses everything that I do.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married for 9 years to my husband, Jesse, and we have two wonderful children. A 7 year old boy named Isaac and a 5 year old girl named Madison.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
As a family some of our favorite activities to do together are bowling, listening to music, playing dominoes, and doing silly dances.
Share a fun fact about yourself.
A fun fact about myself is that I have lived in three different countries. I was born in the country of the Dominican Republic; at the age of 9 my family and I moved to the island of Puerto Rico and later at the age of 13 we moved to the city of New York.
